Flag Football Overview

What it is and how to join in

Children aged 7 and over can play

American football is a fantastic sport, but with helmets, shoulder pads and some seriously tough tackling, it can seem a bit daunting to younger children. That's why the NFL developed flag football - a non-contact version of the sport.

Flag football is the perfect way to learn the ins and outs of American football without the worry of expensive equipment or heavy tackles.

Learning American Football can be fun and rewarding. Participants use team work, with skills such as throw, catch and run principles. Flag can be played from the age of 7 by both Boys and Girls. The skills taught are applicable to the contact version of the sport, (except tackling) so leaning those skills can lead onto older children getting involved in the contact version making for an easy transition.

The Exiles have re-launching a Flag Football programme, coupled with Exiles coaches working currently in after school clubs at Darrick Wood and Erith Schools. We are looking for additional secondary schools to participate in the programme. However, we would like to hear from any children who wish to come along and be part of something new and exciting. Please contact Coach Smith for further details.

All you need to do is to turn up and everything is provided. If you are interested, please contact Coach Smith at e.t.smith@btinterent.com or on 07918 613523.
