1992
saw our first taste of league action in the BNGL division 4 southern
conference.
The Exiles historic first win was a 30-0 drubbing of the Gravesend Lions,
below is the actual game report from First Down: Exiles 30-0 Gravesend Lions
The Exiles made a bid to climb out of the South division cellar with a
comprehensive demolition of the toothless Lions. Exiles dominated their opposition with an all round display, but it was
twin rushers Alan Hands and Lee Hyland who stole the honours.
Hands ran for 101 yards, with partner Hyland just two yards short of his
own century as the Exiles improved to 3-5 while dropping the Lions to 2-3.
Hyland put the visitors on top early in the first quarter when he exposed
some weak Gravesend tackling on a nine yard scoring run.
That was the only score until the third period, when Hands made his mark
on a blazing 42 yard gallop. Hyland added an eight yard score in the
fourth.
Ex-Gravesend passer Steve Thompson came back to haunt his former club with
a 23 yard touchdown pass to sure handed wideout Martin Jefkins.
Exiles defensive back Paul Cherry sealed the sad Lions fate minutes from
the final gun when he killed off their bid to dodge the shutout with a 27
yard interception return TD.
