The Tamworth Phoenix got the better of a nail biting encounter with the Kent Exiles on Sunday, coming out victorious by a score of 27 – 20. The Tamworth defence put the Exiles offence under pressure all day as they shut down the run game and had the Quarterback under pressure for the majority of the day, and forcing seven sacks.
The Exiles defence also underacheived on the day, uncharacteristically giving up lots of first downs, and allowing the Phoenix to sustain drives, rather than getting the offence back on the pitch.
The Exiles points came coutesy of three Aaron Griffiths touchdown passes, one in each of the second, third and fourth quarters. Sean Starwind continued his fine form of the season, catching two of them, with Harry Innis scoring the third. Richard McHugh was good with two extra points.
The Exiles were rightly dissapointed after the game, knowing that collectivly they had underperformed, Head Coach Scott Rowe commented "it was a dissapointing performance, we've not had a game like that all season where we did not acheive many of our game goals. I have to credit the Phoenix though they were a well organised and drilled team, and certainly gave us some unexpected problems on the day".
The Exiles now return to lick their wounds, and begin preperations for the 2010 season, the club can be contacted on contactus@kentexiles.co.uk.
