This past weekend saw the Exiles fourth annual Family Flag Fun Day take place, and a record turnout of over 100 players came to enjoy the day.

The Exiles host the tournament each autumn, and teams are made up from freinds of the club, ex-players and a sprinkling of the current playing squads. The emphasis is on the 'fun' element, and the day acts as a fantastic social occasion for members past and present to get together once again.

This year saw 10 teams enter the tournament, including two from the Judd School in Tonbridge, and two from the Exiles oldest rivals the Southend Sabres. The other teams were made up by 3 from the youth and junior squads, one from the senior team, a scratch team of ex-players and others, and the yearly entry of the Exilettes, made up from players wives and girlfriends.

The teams were split into two divisions, and each team played the others in it's division once making a minimum of four games per team. The winners of each division then played off for the final, and the second placed teams held the 3rd/4th place play-off.

The North division was taken by the Sabres Old Boys, who sporting their new flag jerseys dazzled the opposition, and ran away with the win. Runners up were Team Endzone, made up of Exiles youth team players, who despite showing a distinct lack of respect for their elders limped in second.

The South division was a closer affair, with both of the Vipers squads showing good form, but it was the Vipers 1 who finished in second position. Team Awesome Sauce finished top of the division, and made their way to the final, despite fielding comic book hero Dan Dare in the secondary in his first taste of action for the team.

So the 3rd/4th place play-off was contested between the Tonbridge Vipers 1 and Team Endzone, and there was only going to be one winner as the Vipers ran away with it, and finishing a deserving third.

The final was a tense affair, but the younger legs of team Awesome Sauce finally won the day, as the Sabres Old Boys finally ran out of steam.

The day ended with the traditional BBQ, and all agreeing it had once again been a hugely successful day for the club, with many new and old freindships being renewed. One thing is for sure the 2010 tournament will again see a lot of fun being had!
