Cheetahs failed to prosper against Exiles!

The Kent Exiles outlasted the Hertfordshire Cheetahs to win 28-14 and record their fourth win of the season in Colchester last Sunday.

Hertfordshire were due to host the Exiles in St Albans but due to their ground being unavailable, the game was moved to Colchester Rugby Club the venue of the Exiles last away triumph two weeks ago against the Gladiators.

The ground is clearly a good luck charm for the Exiles as they pulled away from the Cheetahs in the second half to secure another win.

Neither team’s offence started the game particularly well with the defences able to keep the movement of the ball to a minimum. However, it was the Cheetahs, yet to record a win this season, who took the lead in the second quarter with the Hertfordshire quarterback able to score with a short run.

Kent once again struggled to get their offense going and when quarterback Zac Ritchie was intercepted later in the quarter it appeared that the Exiles may go into the interval trailing but a fantastic 56-yard touchdown run from Gabriel Quartey levelled the scores at 7-7 at halftime.

After halftime is was the Exiles who looked the more threatening and finally took the lead toward the end of the quarter following a 8 play, 55 yard drive which culminated in Dayne Robinson scoring on a 23-yard touchdown reception.

However, the Cheetahs would not be easily beaten and managed to level the scores with a touchdown after an interception gifted them possession inside the Exiles 5 yard line.

The Exiles responded well as a touchdown catch for James Bertram-Smith gave them the lead again and then a 61-yard touchdown run from Quartey, who nearly had 200 yards rushing, put the game out of reach.

Zac Ritchie had 145 yards passing with two touchdowns whilst Quartey managed 199 yards in addition to his two long scores. Danny Whitfield had four receptions for 62 yards, Joe Alexis was the leading tackler with eight and Jay Henderson had two interceptions.

Next up for the Exiles is a home matchup with the Sussex Thunder, a team that they have already beaten once this year. They will be hoping for another win to continue their strong season.
