Exiles Cadets Tournament Report

Cornwallis Academy, in Loose, Maidstone, was the location for the second SEYAF Tournament of the year. The day was dry and bright, pitch was firm, a great day to play American Flag Football!

The Kent Exiles where unable to send an Under 14 Team, due to parents taking advantage of the school holidays to take a short break, coupled with school trips. Our Under 11's were our sole representatives of the club.

The best game of the Under 11 tournament was the long awaited clash of the Exiles against the East Kent Mavericks. I think most observers would have witnessed some stronger performances, with all teams making improvements.

Kent Exiles 12 East Kent Mavericks 18

On this occasion the Mavericks managed to sneak a close win. The Mavericks swept into a 12 points to 0 lead, before a Thomas Summers pass to Callum Boden, narrowed the lead to one score. However, some excellent running by the Mavericks opened up the score line before Callum Boden hooked up with Thomas Summers for their second score. There was a frantic few minutes after the Exiles stopped the Mavericks drive with some brilliant tackling from Logan Alexis. Unfortunately, with time running down, 4 frantic "Hail Mary's" failed and the game was over.

Exiles 24 Hound Dogs 0

The Exiles had a comprehensive win over the recently formed Hellingly Hound Dogs. The Exiles scored 6 Touch Down's but we have a 25 point mercy rule, where scoring stops. Offensive Scores, were made by Jayden Smith and Callum Boden, Callum had an excellent day with 5 touchdowns in the three matches Defensive Interceptions accounted for 4 touchdowns, 2 by star defensive player Logan Alexis, with 2 interceptions, making 3 on the season. Jayden Smith adding to his TD total and Isabelle Covey, with her second touchdown of the season.

Exiles 24 Phoenix 6

Exiles proved to be too strong against a much improved Kent Phoenix team. The game opened with the Exiles driving and Callum Boden catching a Thomas Summers pass for the opening score. Logan Alexis increased that score line with a strong run, before Harry Tullett took a handoff and ran through the Exiles defence for a score. The Exiles extended the lead through Callum Boden and a second run from Logan Alexis.

So the Mavericks ended the tournament as winners, with the Exiles in second place. Both teams are now tied for the lead in the South East Youth American Football Championship.
